CMR went live for the first time on January 11 but had to wait several months for OfCom to make its decisions, and to find out that it would be granted a full broadcast licence. It will now broadcast on the AM medium wave band in the Glasgow area.
The Hunter Centre is now the station’s permanent base, and the station will be used as an innovative teaching aid as well as a channel to showcase Strathclyde talent. The station is a demonstration enterprise for the Hunter Centre’s course on entrepreneurship in the creative industries.

Global Management Challenge
Global Management Challenge logo Over 350,000 university students have played the world’s largest strategic management competition since its inception in 1980 and the call is going out again to undergraduate and postgraduate students to take part. This year, 20,000 students will play the Global Management Challenge in 25 countries.
In October, the competition will begin and each student’s team will be given the management of a virtual company. The teams then develop this virtual company by making a series of decisions relating to every aspect of the business. The aim is to finish the game with the highest price on the virtual stock exchange. Teams of between 3-5 students from the same university progress through a first round and a semi–final to reach the UK national final, held in March 2008.
The winning team will win a cash prize and then compete at the international finals in Bucharest, Romania, in April 2008.
Previous winners have said the challenge gave them the opportunity to gain valuable transferable skill such as business awareness, management and team working skills.
Top UK graduate recruiters may choose to mentor players in business strategy and game tactics and the mentoring scheme may also help students get their skills seen by these companies.
There is no fee for entry to participate in the Global Management Challenge but places are limited so early registration is recommended. Interested students should check out full eligibility criteria and details of the rules at www.gmc.hobsons.co.uk. The deadline for entry is September 29.
