Prestigious Fellowship for business school vice dean

Tim BedfordProfessor Tim Bedford, vice dean research at Strathclyde Business School, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).

Professor Bedford was one of 48 UK and International Fellows named as of March 1 after a rigorous four-stage selection process culminating in a ballot of the entire, 1500-strong Fellowship. He was recognised for excellence in risk and decision analysis, a field which enables the evaluation of risks in complex environments including airlines, nuclear power plants and the space industry, as well as improving reliability, safety and maintenance.

Fellows are encouraged to contribute to the aims and objectives of the Society, including the provision of expert policy advice to Government and Parliament, outreach education programmes for Prof Tim Bedfordyoung people and public engagement events including conferences and discussion forums.

Professor Bedford of the Management Science department said, "It's a great honour to be elected to the RSE. Its ethos of advancement of learning and useful knowledge closely mirrors our work at Strathclyde, from researching areas of global importance to informing policy, working with business, industry and government, and developing the highly skilled professionals of tomorrow."
