Hunter Centre professor visit

Professor Sue Marlow, Professor of Entrepreneurship at De Montfort University, visited The Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship in March.

Over twenty representatives from academia and industry, including the Entrepreneurial Exchange and Scottish Enterprise, attended Professor Marlow's presentation, "Challenging the 'myth' of the under-performing female entrepreneur," which proposed that labelling women business owners as 'under-performing' reflects a gendered rhetoric of female deficiency rather than a reality of market discrimination and constraint.

'Professor Marlow is one of the leading researchers in the field of women's enterprise and this seminar has attracted the interest of practitioners and policy makers Prof. Sue Marlowas well as academics", said Professor Sara Carter, Head of Department.

During her visit, Professor Marlow also delivered a "Meet the Editors" workshop with Professor Colin Mason and Professor Carter. This provided students and early stage researchers with invaluable insight into publishing for journals.

Professor Marlow is the Editor of the International Small Business Journal, the Vice President for Research for the Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and a Member of the ACCA Small Business Council.
