Management Development Programme prizewinners

Prize-winners plus Ernst & Young staff members

The top three teams selected from the 461 third year students taking part in the Management Development Programme (MDP) this year made their presentations to staff at the Ernst & Young Glasgow office in February.

The Management Development Programme is a compulsory class which runs in each of the first three years of the BA degree and was introduced to develop business, management and personal skills which enhance employability.

Ernst & Young, one of the most successful professional services firms in the world, sponsored the prize for the best team project and presentation in MDP 3. During semester one, students researched a significant ethical issue in a selected organisation including stakeholder analysis and, as internal consultants, presented their recommendations for action.

All teams presented professionally and confidently, handling difficult questions and demonstrating their understanding of the role of ethical action and behaviour in business in the 21st century.

Ernst & Young representative, Blair Cruikshank, commented that "All presentations were of a very high standard; we are delighted to be involved with MDP and continue to value the importance of MDP in equipping students with the skills necessary for the business environment they face upon graduating."

First prize was awarded to team 7E - Natalie Nairn, Sara Park-Patterson, David Purse, Igor Pyrko, Donald Rae and Kirsty Steele - for their presentation on British Energy.

The two runners-up were team 1B - Jianxiong Chen and Tianshu Liu (exchange students from Harbin University, China), Mihail Calinescu, Pamela Muir, Fraser Russell and Charles Scullion - who presented on Diageo, and team 3G - David Baird, Sarah Black, Victoria Carney and Stephen Rutherdale - who presented on Philip Morris.
