Forum for family business advisors at Hunter Centre

The Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship hosted a Forum for Family Business Advisors on April 19 in the Court Senate Room. The event centred on a 'question time' session with a panel of four family business owners: George Morris of Morris & Spottiswood; Jane Wylie-Roberts of Stafffinders Limited; John Curran of Gordon & MacPhail; and George Stevenson of the Scottish Family Business Association; and was chaired by Ken McCracken, of Family Business Solutions.

The event attracted an audience of 75 professional advisors to family businesses, including lawyers, accountants, bankers, wealth managers and consultants. The Forum for Family Business Advisors is a new initiative, hosted by the Hunter Centre and which includes the Law Society of Scotland, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, the Entrepreneurial Exchange, the Scottish Family Business Association, STEP and Family Business Solutions. It is designed to enhance the professional advice given to Scotland's family businesses.

Laura Malcolm of the Law Society of Scotland, said, "The Law Society of Scotland is delighted to work with the Forum of Family Business Advisors to raise awareness within the legal profession of the unique difficulties facing family-run businesses with a view to subsequent training opportunities to assist the legal professionals in understanding family businesses and offering expert guidance and support on how best to advise this huge sector."
