Global Case Challenge UAE

A Strathclyde team fought off stiff competition to get to the final of the UAE regional round of the 2010 OLPC (One Laptop Per Child Foundation) Global Case Challenge.

Regional competitions have been taking place in North America, Europe, Asia and the UAE, with the UAE round taking place on March 27 at the Knowledge Village Auditorium, Dubai

Strathclyde had two teams from its UAE centres, while one other team included two Strathclyde students within a brother and sister team, competing in the UAE round. Eleven teams competed in total, representing 9 bodies.

The 'Strathclyde Futurists' team - Dima Matar (captain), Ahmad Musa, Mohannad Al Mahdi and Tarek al Shabrawi - was one of three teams to get to the final. Ultimately, a team from Hult IBS - Hult Catalysts - won, but Dima said, "The case was really challenging. I believe Strathclyde gave us the effective tools to think out of the box and develop robust strategic directions for OLPC. Although we didn't win, we left with our heads held high as students of Strathclyde."
