SBS staff at International Labour Process Conference

A number of academics from the departments of Management and Human Resource Management attended the 28th International Labour Process Conference which was held for the first time in the USA, at Rutgers University in New Jersey, in March.

This is a conference that Strathclyde has hosted in the past and that academics from the departments of HRM and Management have long played a key role in. That continued this year with streams on good jobs/bad jobs and the economy of feelings being co-ordinated by Professor Patricia Findlay and Professor Chris Warhurst (HRM) and Professor Sharon Bolton (Management). The book launched at the conference - Working Life: Renewing Labour Process Analysis - is co-edited by Professor Paul Thompson (HRM).

The event got off to a rocky start following a storm and power cut that left the conference hotel and venue without electricity and some delegates literally left in the dark even before the sessions started. Fortunately the power returned and a record attendance of delegates enjoyed a successful event that facilitated a fruitful and often fierce exchange between critical researchers with an interest in the workplace from Europe, North America and Australasia.
