A new activity aimed at helping students with their future employment search was organised for the 420 MDP3 students in April. The event, 'Graduate competencies for recruitment and selection', involved 22 staff from Centrica, RBS, Deloitte, Ernst Young, and Morgan Stanley - many of them SBS alumni. All students were actively engaged with employers, demonstrating their skills and competencies in an interview context. They also had opportunities to get feedback and to find out first hand from new graduates what competencies employers are seeking and how best to prepare for graduate employment in the competitive labour market. Careers Service staff also assisted.

SBS alumni were delighted to come back to Strathclyde to share their experiences with students; many had completed MDP and highlighted the value of the programme. Students also enjoyed the sessions and especially welcomed the opportunity to meet successful SBS graduates.

Lauren McCafferty, SBS alumna and who now works for Deloitte in graduate recruitment, commented, "Attending the MDP group sessions provides a friendly and informal environment for students to hear first-hand from current graduates working at Deloitte. It gives students the opportunity to get honest answers to their questions to gain a real inside view to working and training with the Firm. It also serves to identify the key skills the students have gained during their studies and how we as employers look to utilise these skills in our graduate programmes."

Fellow participant and alumna, Larah Henderson of Ernst & Young, added, "Working directly with the students was an absolute pleasure. I was extremely impressed by the standard of work that every student produced. Interview questions were answered by the students with ease and confidence. The individuals in the MDP3 groups appeared to work really well together and they each had the opportunity to provide feedback to the other members of the team."
