Professor of tourism keynote presentation

Professor Richard Butler was an invited keynote panel presenter at the 5th World Conference on Graduate Research in Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure held in Cappadocia, Turkey, from May 25-30. Professor Butler gave a presentation on 'Tourism - A Spatial Perspective' and was also selected to present the award for the best PhD presentation at the conference. Last year one of Professor Butler's PhD students won the same award for a study of clustering in tourism attractions.

He has also jointly edited two books on tourism; the first is 'Tourism Research, A 20-20 Vision' with Professor Pearce of Victoria University, New Zealand, which includes selected papers from the biennial conference of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism held in Spain in 2009.

The second is 'Tourism and Political Change', with Dr W Suntikul, the Institute for Tourism, Macau, which includes invited studies on the effects of political change on tourism and the role of tourism in effecting political change. Both books are published by Goodfellow, Oxford.
