Management Research Report Conference

L to r Professor Dennis Nickson, Head of Department of Human Resource Management; Peter Hamilton (winner of 1st prize), Reina Hazboun (winner of 3rd prize) and David Cameron, HR Director of John Dewar & Sons.

The Department of Human Resource Management recently hosted the Management Research Report Conference. This event is attended by students on the MSc in Human Resource Management and the organisations that provided a work placement opportunity to students on this course.

Students attend a work placement for two days per week from January through to March where they are working on an HR research project within that organisation. At the conference students presented the findings of their research. The conference also allows the Department and the students to say thank you to the organisations who provide the support to the students during their placement.

The top three students are awarded the John Gennard Prize and this year's prize winners were:

Peter Hamilton, first prize "Study of the recruitment of migrant workers";

Lynne Williamson, second prize, "The perceptions of fairness associated with the current performance appraisal process"; and

Reina Hazboun, third prize, "Work and home boundary management behaviour of engineers".

The guest speaker at the conference was David Cameron, HR Director, John Dewar & Sons (part of the Bacardi Group) who gave an inspirational talk to the students. David is an alumnus of the University having completed an MBA in Strathclyde Business School.
