BUIRA stewardship at the department of Human Resource Management

At its annual conference in July the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA) decided its stewardship should go to Strathclyde for the next three years. The team from the Department of Human Resource Management that will manage the stewardship are Professor Paul Stewart (President), Dr Kirsty Newsome (Membership Secretary) who led the bid, Kay Gilbert (Communications Secretary) and Dr Ian Cunningham (Treasurer). Debbie Campbell, Departmental Secretary, will provide support to the team. It is believed that this is the first time that the stewardship of BUIRA has its home in Scotland and the team led a strong bid to ensure its success at conference.

The Association was set up in 1950 and its membership are academics or research students working in industrial relations, labour law, labour economics, human resource (or personnel) management, industrial sociology, occupational psychology, trade union studies and labour history. BUIRA has a number of study groups and an annual conference each year to provide support for research and teaching. Further details can be found on the website www.buira.org .
