Strathclyde students 'score' with finance roles

Three voluntary finance officer positions at Ayr United Football Academy have been taken up by students and graduates of Strathclyde Business School's accounting and finance department.

Students were invited to apply for the positions and a number of candidates were interviewed, with all three positions being taken by Strathclyders. The finance team at the Football Academy is headed up by Lyall Millar, a partner in Galbraith Pritchards Chartered Accountants. He is joined by Ross Wilson, who recently graduated in Accounting and Economics from Strathlcyde. He will have responsibility for managing the finances of the Talented Young Footballers Programme.

Jonathan Jones, currently in his Honours year of Accountancy and Finance at Strathclyde has been given the role of Finance Officer in charge of the Community Programme and hopes the position will help him gain some vital experience in practical accounting matters as well as allowing him to give something back to the community.

Thirdly, Darren McCallum - studying towards a degree in Business with Accounting - has taken up the financial duties for the Space Place and hopes this role will provide invaluable experience.

A spokesman for the AUFA board, said, "The quality of the candidates for these voluntary positions was excellent. Without our volunteers the Academy cannot function and all of those who are prepared to offer their services in the background allow the football coaches to concentrate fully on their footballing roles."
