Student project tops Scottish Premier League

The Scottish Premier League (SPL) recently heaped praise on Honours students from the Department of Marketing for the outstanding quality of their research projects during the 2009/10 session on customers' perceptions of aspects of the SPL clubs' services.

Presenting an award to the best overall SPL-linked project during the Department's Honours Graduation event, the Marketing and Communications Manager of the SPL, Greig Mailer, expressed his delight at the highly professional and committed manner in which the students had approached the projects and indicated that the SPL are looking to implement several of the recommendations contained in the reports.

The SPL had commissioned the students to investigate customer perceptions of aspects of the services offered by eight SPL clubs, with a view to providing actionable performance-enhancing recommendations. The collaborative projects, undertaken as part of the Department's Sport Marketing programme led by Dr Sean Ennis, produced eight dissertations, which left the sponsors with a very hard task of identifying an overall winner.

That honour eventually went to Scott Stevenson whose research generated data from over 14,000 respondents. Another project attracted high commendation and won the student a position within the SPL Marketing team.

This collaboration will continue in the 2010/11 session, reinforcing the Department of Marketing's credentials in knowledge exchange.
