Dr Paul Lynch, Department of Management, co-chaired with Dr Angela Roper, Faculty of Management and Law, University of Surrey, the Hospitality, Leisure, Sports, Tourism and Events Management track of British Academy of Management 2010 research conference. This track aims to attract papers from those academic colleagues working in business and management schools where their discipline or applied focus is hospitality, leisure, sports, tourism or events. Papers were presented by researchers at all stages in their careers, and included topics such as critical perspectives on sustainable luxury hotel branding and sustainable tourism development, Commonwealth Games volunteering legacy and also journal quality grading metrics. Now in its third year, the track is growing in size with some 14 papers accepted following the reviewing process. Discussion is under way regarding the development of a Special Interest Group as a means of building upon the successes to date.

The BAM conference took place on September 14-16 at the University of Sheffield with the theme of 'Management Research in a Changing Climate'.

Elsewhere in the business school, Professor Fran Ackermann (Management Science) contributed to two of the sessions of the Doctoral Symposium, namely 'Data analysis - tips and tools: exploring qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method approaches' with Carmel de Nahlik and Lavinia Boyce, and 'Communicating your research: Developing your own communication strategy' with Robin Wensley.

Professor Colin Eden (Management) made a presentation to the BAM conference on 'Management research, its relevance and the REF'. Dr Peter McInnes, Dr Paul Hibbert and Dr George Burt (Management) also all contributed by presenting papers at BAM. Chris Huxham, now an Emeritus Professor within the Department of Management following her retirement earlier this year, was also involved with BAM this year.
