Economics professor's immigration lecture

At the end of September, Professor Robert E. Wright (Economics) visited the Socioeconomic Institute at the University of Zurich. At the request of the Institute's director, Professor Rainer Winklemann, he delivered a faculty lecture with the title: Regionality in Immigration Policy: Does in Work? Evidence from Canada and met with staff and PhD students.

At the invitation of Professor David Metcalf, Chair of the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), Professor Wright spoke at an academic workshop held at London School of Economics earlier in the month. The aim of the workshop was to obtain expert views about the economic, public service and social impacts of immigration that will underpin the MAC's recommendations to the Government on how to limit Tiers 1 and 2 immigration.

Professor Wright, who is a member of the ESRC Methods and Infrastructure Committee, attended a meeting in Swindon on September 21. A key topic discussed was the ESRC's possible responses to future cuts in public spending.
