Marketing agency gets behind industry project work

Glasgow-based marketing agency DADA has formalised on links already set up with the Department of Management by offering placements to second and third year students taking Industry Project Studies. This is a new class designed to give work experience to students in a particular area of work they are interested in, thus giving students the chance to apply knowledge learned in class direct to workplace scenarios and boosting their CVs in the process.

Lynda Forrest, head of events at DADA, spoke to students to outline DADA's work experience placements which are being offered exclusively to Strathclyde students in the department of management. DADA is one of many organisations supporting this new class within the hospitality and tourism undergraduate degree. All students taking the class are invited to apply and their application will determine whether they are selected for the DADA placement. They will then be involved from the beginning of the project to the completion of it, getting invited to all relevant meetings and attending at DADA weekly.

Students will get the chance to work on such projects as Festival in the Sky, Glam in the City, Miss Scotland and the launch of the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway.

Hannah MacKenzie had the chance to work with DADA this summer and said, "I was offered the opportunity of two summer work placements with DADA. Initially I was selected to work at Glam in the City, a three day fashion event which took place in June at George Square. DADA made great use of their student team and we had very versatile roles, giving us an insight into the different areas involved in running such a large event.

"After Glam I was one of the lucky students selected by DADA owner Oli Norman to work at the Festival in the Sky where guests dine at 100 feet. This was a month long placement where I got the opportunity to work with DADA's top manager Lynda Forrest, gaining invaluable experience in the process. My summer with DADA was hard work and long days but an amazing experience!"

Fellow student Ashleigh McNish added, "It is from working for DADA at their Glam in the City and Festival in the Sky events that I have decided I'd like to pursue a career in events management. I hope working with DADA this summer has given me good links within the industry for the future."
