Professor opens international conference

Professor Christine Cooper (Accounting and Finance) was the opening plenary speaker at the 4th GECAMB (Conference on Environmental Management and Accounting) held on October 14 and 15 at Leiria, Portugal.

GECAMB is an international, biennial conference and took place at the Instituto Politécnico in Leiria (IPL), Portugal, in partnership with the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (CSEAR), based in Scotland.

IPL's School of Technology and Management, through the Centre of Investigation in Management for Sustainability (CIGS), hosted this event which aimed to share knowledge, through an interdisciplinary approach, about emerging tools, policies and strategies, focusing on the challenge of sustainability.

The prominent themes of the conference were management in social and environmental accounting, sustainable development and organisational responsibility, both in theoretical and practical terms.

GECAMB is directed towards researchers, teachers, pupils, governmental and non-governmental organisations, businesses and other interested parties.
