Run of conference work for Management Science academic

Dr Viktor Dorfler of the Department of Management Science has been involved in a series of conferences over the past few months. At the Academy of Management conference, he, along with other members of the Executive Coaching Research Group, ran a two-hour workshop called "Shakespeare's Witches". This title covered a drama-based approach to education of executives and executive coaches. The introduction of their conceptual framework was followed by a discussion during which they also showed a sample workbook that they use with their students.

Dr Dorfler presented a paper on "Understanding Intuitive Knowledge" co-authored with Professor Fran Ackermann (Management Science). The presentation was followed by a long and lively discussion. Apart from these two main events, Dr Dorfler also participated in a caucus on "Intuition in Organisations," facilitated a division round-table paper session on "The Role of Cognition in Team Performance" and received an outstanding reviewer award from the MOC division.

At the British Academy of Management conference he co-authored a developmental paper on "Reflecting on a Fluid Research Approach". The paper was presented by his former PhD student and co-author Mark Stierand.

The line of conferences was concluded with another Renaissance-style VIPSI conference in Venice where Dr Dorfler gave a keynote speech on "Interviewing Grandmasters: Methodological Issues", and trans-disciplinary research alliances were formed starting to explore areas of collaboration.

Most recently, Dr Dorfler delivered an invited lecture to the undergraduate students of the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences on "Strategy and Communication". This lecture was aimed at demonstrating a different perspective on strategy through the metaphors of knowledge restaurants which depict the types of knowledge sharing.
