Scottish high growth firms study

Scottish Enterprise published a research study on High Growth Firms in Scotland in November, authored by Professor Colin Mason of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Dr Ross Brown of Scottish Enterprise. Dr Brown obtained his PhD from Strathclyde Business School and worked in the European Policies Research Centre before moving to Scottish Enterprise.

The report, which has attracted considerable media coverage, highlighted the diversity of high growth firms in terms of age, sector and founding circumstances. The paucity of high technology high growth firms was particularly striking. This will be the subject of a follow-up study that Professor Mason will undertake on behalf of Scottish Enterprise in the first half of 2011. The full report is available here.

The latest Fraser of Allander Economic Commentary (34/2, November 2010) contains a summary of the report's main findings.
