Cohort programme developed for MDDUS

Top level staff from UK-wide medical and dental defence organisation MDDUS (Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland) are continuing to develop their professional development, thanks to a programme devised by Strathclyde Business School to enhance their management techniques.

Dr Paul Hibbert from the Department of Management spent several months exploring alternatives with MDDUS, after they initially approached SBS, getting to know their needs and the sort of management learning that would be most impactful for the organisation.

MDDUS was keen on something suitable for a cohort of staff so a special programme was developed, drawing on the MBA programme and specially designed material, which would lead to a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Management Learning.

There are seven members of staff from MDDUS taking part in Dr Paul Hibbertthe initial course which began in September 2010.

Professor Gordon Dickson, CEO of MDDUS, said, "Over time this will be seen as an accolade to which members of staff will aspire. We are a company whose reputation is built on its people, and as such provide a range of learning opportunities for staff to help them maximise their potential."

He said the ultimate aim is to provide an 'even better' service to its members.

Dr Hibbert commented, "We spent a great deal of time getting to know the needs of the company so we could provide the best kind of programme for them. In doing so, we have now developed an approach that can easily be adapted to the needs of other companies keen to develop their staff."
