Rubicon contest team - the Strathegians

A team of four from SBS's Master of International Management programme have been selected to take part in the Rubicon Contest, an international contest for undergraduate and graduate business students.

The team - Vishal Gholap, Tushar Kaul, Shubham Maheshwari and Dung Luu Cong - calling themselves 'Strathegians', are one of 24 international teams taking part in the 5th Rubicon Contest from March 1-3 at the campus of the Business and Information Technology School (BiTS) in Iserlohn, Germany. Students will discuss and present ideas on the topic of 'The Future of Mobility'.

Selected teams are from the USA, Europe, Africa, Canada, India, Malaysia and Australia, and had to apply to take part in the competition which is run by a group of students at BiTS.

During the three days of the Rubicon Contest, participants have to work out innovative problem-solving strategies and ideas. In three rounds, teams have to prove their economic skills by competing in computer simulations, business-plan development and case studies. After introductions and a welcome ceremony on the first day, all teams take part in a business simulation on the second day, the best teams from which will move on to the second round on day three. The best four teams are determined by an academic and business jury. They will move on to the final round the same day to prepare the final case study and present their results to the jury and other Rubicon participants and guests.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Vishal Gholap, said, "With teams from 17 different nations taking part, this is a truly international contest, enabling us to test our business acumen on an international stage. We see the three day competition as a knowledge transfer window, when we get a chance to meet other students and learn from them about different aspects of their nations. With the reputation the Rubicon contest has garnered globally, we hope not only to compete in the events, but also to use its network and reputation to propel our careers.

"The contest is an opportunity to make new connections, share knowledge and enhance our career opportunities. We would like to thank Dr Andrew Barron, our course co-ordinator, for motivating and supporting us in this challenge."
