Marketing book published

Professor Mark Tadajewski (Department of Marketing) has had a book, written with colleagues from the University of Leicester and La Trobe (Australia), published. Marketing: A Critical Textbook has been published by Sage, along with a four volume major work on Business to Business Marketing, written with Dr Nick Ellis (Leicester) and Dr Andrew Pressey (Lancaster).

In March, Professor Tadajewski has another book coming out - Key Concepts in Critical Management Studies, co-written by Professor Martin Parker (Warwick), Professor Pauline Maclaran (Royal Holloway) and Dr Liz Parsons (Keele), again published by Sage.

Major ESRC Appointment for Economics Professor

Professor Paul Boyle, Chief Executive of the Economics and Social Research Council (ESRC), has appointed Professor Robert Wright, Department of Economics, to a task force concerned with setting future research priorities. The main goal of the task force is to align and shape the ESRC's strategic investments. Professor Wright will focus mainly on the priority area of "Influencing Behaviour and Informing Interventions". The conclusions of the task force will be announced in May.

Keynote presentation for Management professor

Professor Robert Chia (Department of Management) is to give a keynote presentation at the 11th Knowledge Management Forum annual conference for business practitioners at Henley Business School on February 17. His presentation is entitled, "Making Sense out of Non-Sense: Problems, Paradigms and Oblique Sense-Making in a Dynamic Business Environment".

He has also been invited by the University of St Gallen, Switzerland, to give a series of research seminars entitled, "Strategy as Wayfinding" from February 14-16.

Accounting and Finance department hosted US professor

The Department of Accounting & Finance hosted Professor David Reeb of Temple University, USA, during the first week in February. Professor Reeb is also Area Editor of the Journal of International Business Studies.

As part of the activities during his visit, the department held a symposium on Ownership, Governance and Disclosure which included speakers Professor Allan Hodgson, University of Queensland, Australia; Professor Julio Pindado, University of Salamanca, Spain, and Professor David Hillier, Professor Christine Cooper, Dr Patrick McColgan, Yvonne Joyce and several PhD students from the University of Strathclyde.

MBA students to work with The Herald management team

The Herald's CEO Tom Thomson and his management team will be working with the full-time MBA students on February 16 in a strategic investigation and idea generation workshop.

The session will focus on the challenge Scottish newspapers are facing in terms of annual declines in circulation and a move by younger users to the internet where a successful business model for news content online has not yet emerged. The class will work in groups to present their ideas to the management team.
