Fraser of Allander Commentary Special Edition: Energy and Pollution

A special report focussing on energy and pollution has been produced by the Fraser of Allander Institute in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The report brings together a collection of papers relating to current academic research on a range of energy and climate issues including accounting for carbon generation; climate change policy; the 'rebound effect'; and the future energy generation mix in Scotland.

Dr Karen Turner, formerly of Strathclyde, was awarded one of the Economic & Social Research Council's Climate Change Leadership Fellowships and she edited the paper along with Janine De Fence from Strathclyde's Fraser of Allander Institute.

She said, "Our research conducted during the Fellowship highlights important caveats for carbon accounting for Scotland and suggests the need to consider both production and consumption perspectives together in pollution accounting in order to better understand and therefore address the impact of different types of activity on the national or regional environmental trade balances. The other papers in this collection consider a range of issues that impact on consideration of such headline pollution indicators and highlight the policy relevance of the wide range of environmental research currently being undertaken by Scottish based researchers."
