Double first for Hunter Centre

Jillian Gordon, lecturer in the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, was awarded a prize for the best paper in social entrepreneurship at the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship (AGSE) conference, the leading entrepreneurship conference in Australasia held in Melbourne in February.

Jillian's paper, entitled 'The value added approach of Entrepreneurial Philanthropy' is from her doctoral research which she is currently writing up.

The best paper award came with a prize of $500 and was sponsored by the Centre for Social Impact in Australia. Following her best paper success at AGSE, Jillian has also been asked to speak about entrepreneurial philanthropy and high net worth giving behaviour at the Seventh International Society for third Sector Asia-Pacific Regional Conference to be held in Bali in November.

Jillian's best paper success at AGSE follows the success of fellow Hunter Centre colleague Dr Jonathan Levie at the Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship conference, the UK's leading entrepreneurship conference, in London in November.

His paper with Mark Hart and Alona Martiarena entitled, "High Growth Aspiration and Female Entrepreneurship: Unravelling the Effects of Gender" won best paper in the Gender track and the International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship best paper prize. More recently, Dr Levie delivered the closing keynote presentation at the EFMD entrepreneurship conference in Estonia in February.
