Two reasons to celebrate for UAE centre

As part of the activities marking the Department of Marketing's 40th Anniversary, the University of Strathclyde's UAE operations are organising its first ever "Celebrating Marketing Week" in the UAE from May 19-22. The team will also use the Week to celebrate another milestone: the imminent graduation of the first student from the Master's Marketing programme, UAE.

The UAE-based part-time Master's in Marketing programme, launched in 2008, is delivered by the Department's staff in Strathclyde's UAE centre and offers students the flexibility of combining their studies with their professional and family commitments. It responds to the growing needs in the Gulf region for qualified marketing graduates. Several of the students currently on the programme have already managed a career shift into the marketing profession.

Professor Kevin Ibeh, Head of the Department of Marketing, and other Senior Departmental Staff will travel to the UAE to participate at the Celebrating Marketing Week. Events being planned include panel discussions involving academics and practitioners, a workshop on the challenges and opportunities of practising and researching marketing in the Middle East, a student competition focused on online marketing, and the launch of a Gulf Chapter of Strathclyde's Department of Marketing Alumni Association.

This Gulf-based marking of the Department's 40th anniversary offers an excellent opportunity to all members of the Strathclyde's family resident in the Middle East to join their counterparts around the world in celebrating the Department's pioneering leadership and achievements in the Marketing field. It also provides a platform for the alumni to reconnect with their alma mater as well as recommit to the challenge of advancing the Department's finer traditions and continuing leadership of the Marketing field. Alumni who would like to take part in the event can contact k.i.n.ibeh@strath.ac.uk or, in the UAE, catherine.demangeot@strath.ac.uk.
