Management consultancy workshop for students

A management consultancy event organised by Dr Andrew Barron for the MSc in International Management students, featuring MBA alumnus and chairman of APT Facilitators, Oliver Matar, and head of Corporate Excellence Section, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Yousuf Alkhouri, was a great success with the students.

The workshop took place on March 4 and focused on the evolution of the management consultancy profession, with group work, group presentations, a presentation by Mr Matar, and a panel discussion, with Mr Alkhouri giving the client's perspective.

Dr Andrew BarronDr Barron said, "We were delighted that Oliver Mater and Yousif Alkhouri agreed to come to Glasgow to speak to our students. Oliver delivered an interactive, practically-orientated session highlighting some of the issues and dilemmas faced by consultants in the field. These insights were innovatively complemented by Yousif Alkhouri who talked about management consultancy profession from a client's point of view. Combined, these two perspectives encouraged students to reflect critically on the skills and knowledge they need to develop to be successful consultants."

Mr Matar said, "It was a great honour for me to facilitate this workshop about the future of the Management Consultancy Profession. Contributions from all participants were very valuable. I'd like to extend special thanks to Yousif Alkhouri from Abu Dhabi Municipality and to Dr Andrew Barron for making this happen."

One student commented, "For me personally it helped me in giving a better understanding of what I want to pursue in my career. Also they were kind enough to give an insight of the clients' perspective as well." While another added, "It was very educational and a great opportunity for building on one's network," and a "wonderful opportunity."
