Marketing guru at Summer School

Renowned speaker and marketing guru Professor Malcolm McDonald will be giving a talk at Strathclyde Business School's Summer School in June.

Until 2003 Professor McDonald was Professor of Marketing and Deputy Director of Cranfield University School of Management where he is currently an Emeritus Professor. He is also a visiting professor at Henley, Warwick, Aston and Bradford Business Schools. He also has extensive Industrial experience, including a number of years as Marketing and Sales Director of Canada Dry where he controlled a sales force of 250 people. In addition he spent time training sales personnel and managers for multinational companies such as SKF and Alfa Laval.

He is Chairman of Brand Finance plc and five small companies, and spends much of his time working with the operating boards of the world's biggest multinational companies, such as IBM, Xerox and BP, in places such as Japan, USA, Europe, South America, ASEAN and Australasia.

Professor McDonald is the author of 43 books, including the best-selling 'Marketing Plans: how to prepare them, how to use them' and has had more than 100 articles and papers published.

His talk – Marketing in the Boardroom - will take place on June 7 at 6pm and will look at the ten questions directors are asking their marketing colleagues and the answers they should be given. He will spell out what the principal issues are and will deal with how senior marketers can deal with them to the satisfaction of their board. The talk is open to students and alumni of the business school.

Also forthcoming is a talk, for MBA students, from Martin O'Grady, CFO of Orient Express. He will be giving a presentation and leading an institutional investor role play session for full-time MBA students on May 19 in the Department of Management.

Last month saw Carl Smith, Logistics Manager for AB (Associated British)Foods, give a talk to MBA students on 'The challenges of managing supply chain in a turbulent global environment'. His talk encompassed issues of turbulence, supply chains and the world of food retailing.
