Strathclyde highly placed in hospitality research

Recently published research examining hospitality and tourism research in the first decade of the new millennium has highlighted the contributions of two members of staff of Strathclyde Business School as well as the leading position of the University of Strathclyde with regard to hospitality and tourism research worldwide.

The research - conducted by Park, Phillips, Canter and Abbott - is published in the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research and focuses 'on the quantity as well as quality of research in hospitality and tourism'. It reports on the productivity of authors, universities and countries using research contributions to 'the six most commonly cited and highly recognized hospitality and tourism journals' deemed to be 'the most selective and influential' as well as prestigious journals within the academy. The period covered is from 2000 to 2009, a period when there was a significant growth in the field.

The University of Strathclyde places highly in the top 50 of the most prolific universities worldwide in hospitality research.

Dr Paul Lynch from the Department of Management is the only United Kingdom scholar, and one of only two European scholars, to feature in the top 50 most prolific authors in hospitality internationally in a list dominated by American academics.

The University of Strathclyde is also recognised as being in the top 100 universities contributing the most to hospitality and tourism research. The late Professor Richard Prentice, Professor of Heritage Tourism, appears amongst the '100 most prolific authors in hospitality and tourism research'.
