President of oikos visits Department of Accounting and Finance

As part of University research into Social and Environmental Accounting, Harriet Jackson the current President of oikos will be visiting the Department of Accounting and Finance on Thursday, April 28.

Oikos is the international student organisation for sustainable economics and management. Oikos International is the umbrella organisation which supports and leads the student network of 36 Chapters in 20 countries across the world. Each Chapter is driven by highly motivated students (and their University) who push for change towards sustainability in economics through events and projects at their universities.

Oikos also has an academic arm, the oikos Foundation, which aims to integrate social and economic dimensions into the teaching and research of economics and business administration through a PhD Fellowship programme, week-long PhD academies, and support for sustainability teaching. To date LSE is the only UK School to have signed up as a charter University of Oikos. See www.oikos-international.org/about-oikos/organisation/oikos-international.html

As President of oikos International 2011, Harriet Jackson's role is to lead and foster the oikos student network. She studied Government and Economics at the LSE, and currently works from the oikos offices in St Gallen, Switzerland. If any staff or students would like to meet Harriet and find out more about oikos, she will be making a short lunchtime presentation in the Department of Accounting and Finance at 12 noon on April 28. Those interested in coming along should contact Andrea Coulson or Lorna Carlaw.
