Spring School Proves Popular with SBS Masters Students

The first annual Strathclyde Business School (SBS) Spring School took place from April 4 - 8. More than 50 MSc students from the departments of Management and Management Science took part in this week long initiative, fostering cross-fertilisation between taught postgraduate programmes and building a wider MSc community across SBS.

Associate Dean (Postgraduate), Dr Calvin Burns, launched Spring School by setting students the group challenge of designing a virtual team building exercise by the end of the week. Throughout the week, students had the choice of taking one of three elective classes, which contribute to their final qualification. Attracted by the opportunity to take classes not normally on offer to them, students also appreciated the chance to meet and work with their peers from other SBS Masters programmes.

In addition to these electives, a compelling Masterclass in Leadership was run by Visiting Professor Ros Taylor, which proved extremely popular. On Friday afternoon, April 8, Associate Professor Rebekah-Russell Bennett from the triple accredited QUT Business School spoke to students and staff about the perils and pitfalls of undertaking cross-disciplinary research.

Dean of SBS, Professor Susan Hart, then closed the Spring School by presenting prizes to the teams which had submitted the most inventive solution to the Spring School Challenge, and invited students to a reception to end the week. Following very positive feedback from students, Spring School will be rolled out to all SBS departments from 2012.
