SBS at MBA Career Services Council

The third European Conference of the MBA Career Services Council was held in Leeds this year, and Strathclyde Business School's career and corporate development manager Irene Aitkenhead Taylor represented Strathclyde at the conference, which saw 50 top business schools from Europe and the US attend from April 10-13.

A number of large corporate recruiters joined the business school representatives at Leeds University Business School for what is an annual European conference run by the MBA Career Services Council.

Ms Taylor said, "Apart from setting and sharing best practice, a significant activity of the Career Services Council is that its career support service level and destination reporting standards form the basis of the careers sections in both The Economist and the FT rankings, as well as Business Week in the US. The reporting standards sessions at the conference generate the biggest turnout and most lively debate, and it is noticeable that European schools are leading the call to reduce the emphasis on placement and salary as indicators of quality career support – and they are being heard.

"This conference is also unique in that it attracts a number of large corporate recruiters, who contributed to the various sessions covering: professional development and market awareness of all delegates, talent management, the global MBA market, and trends in the global MBA recruitment marketplace."

Founded in 1994, the MBA Career Services Council (MBA CSC) is a global professional association for individuals in the fields of graduate management career services and MBA corporate employers. There are more than 400 members representing a diverse group of more than 160 MBA programmes, advanced degree business schools and corporations located around the world.

The conference focused on the professional development and market awareness of all delegates. It looked at talent management, the global MBA market, standards on reporting of employment data, and trends in the global MBA recruitment marketplace.

Previous conferences were held at IESE in Barcelona and IMD in Lausanne.
