Scotland plc awards:the winners'

Strathclyde Business School's research helped the Scotland plc Awards 2011 judging panel with the task of selecting the winners in the nine award categories, ensuring a worthy winner in each. The annual awards - run by Scottish Business Insider and PricewaterhouseCoopers - were this year held on April 20 at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel. The SBS research was considered by the judging panel, comprising this year: Professor Ian Percy, The Rt Hon Sir Menzies Campbell MP, Graeme Bissett, Alan Thomson, and Alasdair Locke.

The winners were announced at the glittering event which was hosted by business woman, journalist and presenter, Adrienne Lawler. The speaker this year was John Simpson, the BBC's World Affairs Editor. The winners are:

The judges unanimously agreed that Sir Moir Lockhead, who recently retired as chief executive of FirstGroup was the perfect recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. They also said that the Scottish plc of the Year, John Wood Group, was a "real flagship" for Scotland which had done an "outstanding job".

Now in their 13th year, the awards recognise excellence in the plc sector and continually evolve to reflect the changing business landscape. As research partner, Strathclyde Business School vigorously researches and provides financial information on each of the short-listed companies.
