Emeritus professor awarded Leverhulme fellowship

Professor Richard Butler, emeritus professor at Strathclyde Business School has been awarded a Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship to run from October 2011 for 19 months, the topic being "Adjustment to change in a remote island community over fifty years: Fair Isle", which will allow him to revisit his first research project done on the Fair Isle beginning in 1962.

He was also an invited keynote speaker at a conference in Istanbul earlier this month, the Advances in Hospitality and Tourism Marketing and Management Conference organised by Bogazici University, Istanbul, from June 20-23. Professor Butler spoke on, "Tourist Destinations -Why Do we get them Wrong?" and presented a paper at the Twelfth Biannual Meeting of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism in Taiwan from June 4-11, entitled "Tourism and War - An Ill Wind?"

In addition, Professor Butler has had a book published this year: "Island Tourism - Sustainable Perspectives" is jointly edited with Professor J Carlsen of Curtin University, Australia, and is published by CABI.
