40th anniversary dinner honours

The Chief Executive of the award-winning Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Mr Scott Taylor was honoured with the Distinguished Alumnus accolade, at the Anniversary Dinner and Awards Ceremony on June 11 organised by the University of Strathclyde's Marketing Department to mark its 40 years of pioneering leadership in marketing education and research.

The award was the first of its kind by the Department and it recognised Mr Taylor's distinguished career since graduation from this renowned academic Marketing Department in 1984. In his citation on Mr Taylor, Professor Kevin Ibeh, Head of Department of Marketing at the University of Strathclyde Business School celebrated Mr Taylor's leadership of the trail-blazing Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, noting among other things:

This Destination Marketing Organisation has, under Mr Taylor's astute watch, been outstandingly successful in driving the Glasgow city brand forward and reinforcing the city's differential attributes and distinctiveness; and been closely involved in bidding, securing, developing and marketing a number of major events and conferences, such as Commonwealth Games 2014, UEFA Cup Final 2007, MOBO Awards 2011, to mention a few. Under his leadership, GCMB has won a number of awards, including Best UK Convention Bureau for five years in a row (2007-2011); Pinnacle Award USA (2009, 2010); Marketing Excellence Award PR (2007), Best Sports Marketing City (2010), and Glasgow City Council Leader's Award (2010).

Professor Ibeh further saluted Mr Taylor's experience, creativity and Strathclyde-incubated marketing expertise in the service of Glasgow and Scotland, both on the international stage and more locally via chair positions, board memberships and directorships past and present. Examples mentioned include his service as Member of Management Board, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce; Director, Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA); Director, Glasgow Central College; Chair, Strategic Major Events Forum and Chair of Greater Glasgow Hotels Association.

This personal award adds to the many accolades recently received by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau under Mr Taylor's leadership.
