Dr Svetla Marinova, Associate Professor, University of Aarlborg, Denmark and Deputy Chair of the SIG; Prof Nigel Holden, Senior Research Fellow, CIBUL (Centre for International Business, University of Leeds); Prof Stan Paliwoda, University of Strathclyde and SIG Chair: Prof Svend Hollensen, University of Southern Denmark and Prof Peter McGoldrick, Tesco Professor of Retailing, Manchester Business School.

A one day workshop held at the Department of Marketing on the theme of International Marketing was a collaborative event organised by Department of Marketing and the Academy of Marketing's Special Interest Group (SIG) on International Marketing.

Attendees came from as far as London and several from Yorkshire and the Midlands. There was a good line-up of speakers for the day including Professor Svend Hollensen, Professor of International Marketing at the University of Southern Denmark and author of a best-selling textbook on Global Marketing, who spoke on the "Development of a Global Marketing Strategy."

Professor Nigel Holden, Senior Research Fellow at CIBUL (the Centre for International Business, the University of Leeds) and author with Martin Glisby of Creating Knowledge Advantage, delivered an interesting talk on culture without Hofstede or as it was formally titled: "The Role and Nature of Tacit Knowledge in Firms' International Networks".

Professor Peter McGoldrick, Tesco Professor of Retailing at Manchester Business School and Director of the Retail Research Forum spoke on "Ethical, Environmental, International Sourcing". His sole-authored textbook Retail Marketing (McGraw-Hill,) now in its second edition, is also available in Chinese.

This was the first ever one day workshop and, aside from the presentations, participants benefited from the ability to freely discuss and raise questions in an informal atmosphere.
