India alumni event

Following the inaugural visit of Scottish education minister Michael Russell to the Strathclyde SKIL Business School in Greater Noida, which was hosted by Professor Colin Eden and Professor Metri, a Scottish Universities' Alumni Dinner was held in the evening. Strathclyde University was well-represented, having the largest number of alumni present at the dinner event. The alumni speaker was also selected from Strathclyde.

The event was organised by several Scottish universities in conjunction with the Scottish Government and Scottish Development International, and was held at the Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi.

Over 120 guests from nine Scottish universities as well as the Scottish Government, Scottish Development International, British Council, UKIERI and members of the Indian press attended this event.

The evening started off with a welcome speech from Mr Michael Russell MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, who welcomed the alumni and talked about the quality and value of Scottish Education.

Mr Arvind Verma, an alumnus of the University of Strathclyde's Business School, gave an insightful talk on his experience of education and how Scottish education has helped him with his career to date.

There were also speeches from Professor Peter Downes, OBE, Principal and Vice-Chancellor University of Dundee and Professor Dame Joan K. Stringer, Principal & Vice-Chancellor Edinburgh Napier University.

The evening was a huge success. Guests who attended this event noted how much they enjoyed the opportunity to network with alumni from Strathclyde and other Universities.
