University appoints top Fund Manager as Visiting Professor

Strathclyde Business School has appointed Daniel Broby, a leading City fund manager, as a Visiting Professor. The part time post has tenure until December 31 2014.

Daniel is highly respected in the City and will prove invaluable in giving the department's postgraduate students' real life insights into the world of fund management. He was elected an individual member of the London Stock Exchange in 1990; is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment; a Fellow of CFA UK and a Visiting fellow at Durham University.

Daniel is Deputy Chief Executive at Silk Invest, a specialist in frontier and emerging market investment. He has had a number of 'C' level positions at the largest fund managers in Scandinavia and Russia. These include Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer and Chief Portfolio Manager. His focus on high level principles, integrity and best practice underlie his professional success.

Daniel built his career on the back of a strong grounding in finance theory. He has an MPhil in economics and an MSc in investment analysis. Despite his impressive career, he has maintained a close relationship with academia and has authored a number of books and articles on index construction and fund management.

Daniel said, "I am delighted to be joining the faculty and look forward to pursuing my research interests. The opportunity to mentor and support the brightest and the best of the UK's cohort of Accounting and Finance students is an added bonus."

Strathclyde Business School was ranked 1st in the UK for Accounting & Finance by The Sunday Times University Guide 2011.

Daniel began his fund management career in 1985 and has witnessed the transformation of the industry from "pre-big bang" to "post-credit crisis." He has been responsible for billions of pounds of investments and was awarded the top rating of five morning stars for the performance of the flagship global fund that he ran for eight years. In addition to a whole host of mutual funds, he has also launched a number of hedge funds and structured products.

Daniel was recognised for his contribution to the industry by the CFA institute who awarded him its Society Leader Award. Prior to that, Daniel variously served as a board member of the Society of Investment Analysts, The Institute of Investment Management and Research, The European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies and the CFA Society of the United Kingdom. In addition, he has also been a Presidents Council Representative to the CFA Institute, representing both the International and EMEA regions. Daniel also served on the Capital Markets Policy Committee for six years.
