SBS researching new technology award for Scotland plc awards

A new award category of Digital Value Creation has been developed for the Scotland Plc Awards 2012 which will recognise companies' activities in adopting and utilising new technological developments to engage with customers, investors, employees and other stakeholders.

It is now generally accepted that the use of technology is critical to the future competitiveness of the Scottish economy. Therefore the focus of this award will be on how technology has transformed the way companies work and how it has contributed to recent company performance.

This award will therefore recognise the creative and innovative use of digital technology in four main areas:

Companies were asked to self-nominate by completing a brief online form covering all or some of the above four areas. This has allowed Strathclyde Business School to draw up a short-list of companies who will be visited in order that technology uses can be explored in more depth.

The academics involved in this category are Professor Alan Wilson, Department of Marketing, and Dr Jim Hamill, Director, Energise 2-0 (formerly Department of Marketing).

The Scotland plc Awards were launched in 1999 by Scottish Business Insider and PricewaterhouseCoopers to celebrate and publicise outstanding achievements by the Scottish plc community.

The Awards are presented at a high profile dinner attended by not only the quoted companies but also by the key players in the Scottish corporate market, comprising lawyers, accountants, bankers and corporate financiers, making up an audience of around 550 people. In 2012 the event will be held on April 18 at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel.
