MSc Finance wins the first SBS Postgrad Football Tournament

The first SBS Postgrad Football Tournament took place on March 2 at the University of Strathclyde Centre for Sport & Recreation. The tournament was organised by Marc Mueller and Pratik Arte, both studying MSc in International Management (MIM) at the Strathclyde Business School, with the support of Dr Andrew Barron (Academic Director for MIM), Mr Scott Neil (Facilities Manager at the Centre for Sport and Recreation) and eight volunteers from MIM.

Entry was open to all the nineteen postgraduate courses at the Business School out of which the organisers received twelve applications for the eight available places.

The MSc in Business Information Technology Systems (BITS) won Group A with seven points followed by the MSc in Applied Economics (MAE) with four points. In Group B, MSc Finance led the table with nine points before MSc in International Marketing (IM). In the semi-finals, IM succeeded over BITS 3-0, whereas the MSc Finance defeated the MAE only through a penalty shoot-out. The MAE secured the 3rd place with a 6-0 win over BITS Galaxy. The tournament ended with the highly anticipated final competed between MSc Finance and IM In an intense match, MSc Finance defeated the IM 2-0.

The winning team was awarded engraved gold medals and a bottle of Champagne by Dr Barron. A total of 54 goals were scored during the course of the tournament ensuring that the spectators were thoroughly entertained. The tournament was a huge success with many players and spectators encouraging the organisers to organise such events more frequently.
