Technology Roadmapping Workshops

Technology Roadmapping (TRM) workshops took place at Strathclyde Business School on February 23 and 24, which proved to be very successful and informative. The two-day TRM: Research & Practice workshop welcomed keynote speakers Nicky Athanassopoulou (Institute of Manufacturing, University of Cambridge), Mattias Klaes (University of Keele), Jim Mather (Gael Ltd) and Robin Williams (University of Edinburgh).

The workshop discussed to what extent TRM is a general tool for strategy, how TRM compares with other approaches and how it can be used as a basis for consensus as practice, particularly for SMEs.

The keynote speakers delivered thought provoking and interesting presentations. The presentations led to three areas of interest which are currently being developed and shaped for a special journal issue proposal. Further information can be found on the Scottish Universities Institute Insight website.

Following the Research & Practice Workshop, Engineering and Renewable/Oil/Gas Workshops were also popular with SMEs participating and leading discussions. Gerry Watt (Chief Executive, Scottish Technology Network) and David Liddle (Director Strategic Technology, itf) were both keynote speakers who presented their experiences of TRM and the differences in their industries with respect to the processes and tools used to incorporate SMEs.

The next planned workshops include the Life Sciences/IT/Creative Workshop which will be taking place in mid-April and the Policy workshop scheduled to take place on May 3 and 4.
