Learning and cultural exchange provides benefits to students

MBA students from Strathclyde Business School's Singapore centre (MacVicar class) who took part in the inaugural student-organised trip to Shanghai to visit a variety of businesses have reported it has been a great success.

Conceived as a learning expedition and cultural exchange, the idea was first floated in October with the exchange taking place in April this year.

The class had good feedback from the companies they met - Agilent Technologies (Shanghai) Co Ltd and Fu Yu Molding & Tooling (Shanghai) Co Ltd - who kindly hosted the students and shared their valuable time to explain their operations to the group, and providing detailed tours of the factories. The students also met MBA students from CEIBS on their exchange trip, and took part in a networking session, hosted by Angela Yu, Student Ambassador of CEIBS.

The MacVicar students, spearheaded by organisers Mr Poh Kim Siong and Mr Goh Guan Kiat, say the idea wouldn't have been a success without the support of SBS staff including Dr Michael Marck and Professor Colin Eden.

They said, "Despite it being a 'first of its kind', Dr Marck spared no effort in helping us realise the concept of student-led learning and helping us with the practicalities of this process. I hope the tradition of organising student-led learning expeditions and cultural exchanges will begin to take root among the student body of Strathclyde Business School and that the SBS Learning Expeditions and Cultural Exchanges initiative will not stop here."
