Hunter Centre hosts ESRC Festival of Social Science event

The Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy (CGAP) at Strathclyde Business School is holding an event in partnership with ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) entitled 'Social investment for the 21st century' on November 5 at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship.

It will provide an opportunity for social entrepreneurs, social enterprises, social investors and supporters of social enterprise including policymakers and researchers to discuss new and emerging forms of social investment and to consider the relevance of current practice, research and policy in social investment, entrepreneurial philanthropy and wealth redistribution for social purposes, including social innovation.

Part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science, the event invites social entrepreneurs, social investors and supporters of social enterprise - including policymakers and researchers - to discuss new and emerging forms of social investment and will focus on questions such as: How can we improve the environment and support for social investment, entrepreneurial philanthropy, social innovation, and social entrepreneurship? How can the sustainability and impact of third sector organisations be improved through social investment?

CGAP researchers will be making presentations as will the Scottish Government. It will also include workshops on entrepreneurial philanthropy, community foundations and social lending.

The event intends to develop recommendations to better support, encourage and foster entrepreneurial philanthropy and social investment. A publication, produced in collaboration with ESRC, will be available after the event.

The event is free of charge but to register please contact entrepreneur@strath.ac.uk
