Support for ESRC grant proposals for SBS staff

Following a successful 'grant challenge' undertaken by the faculties of Science and Engineering in 2012, the faculties of HaSS and SBS are organising a similar sequence of events for colleagues who are planning a grant proposal to ESRC by summer 2013, and who are interested in supporting and learning from one another. This is an excellent opportunity to meet new colleagues and work together in teams to help each other produce grant proposals and improve the University’s ESRC success rate.

If you are interested in participating in these events, please book the three dates on the booking links below for each session date (Wed 6th March, Wed 10th April and Wed 15th May all 2-4.30pm) or go to the DAT booking system. You would be expected to come to all three events and to produce a grant proposal as the outcome. Proposals should be ready to submit by 14th June 2013.

Outline Session 1:Wednesday March 6th. 2-4.30pm

Session 1: First meeting to go over process and initiate peer-to-peer interactions (divided into groups of four or five academics) using 3 page outlines. At the end of the session you will have had peer to peer support and peer review feedback on your project outline and a plan for the way forward.

Outline Session 2:Wednesday April 10th. 2-4.30pm

Session 2: Focus on finances (with a talk from RaKET), discussion of impact statements, and another peer to peer meet-up. At the end of this session you will have gained more ideas/hints/tips/ guidance on finance and impact statements from your peers.

Outline Session 3:Wednesday May 15th. 2-4.30pm

Session 3: Full proposals ready, discussion of peer review forms. At the end of this session you will have had peer to peer and experts critique of your full proposal. Please prepare your material in Je-S format.

After the sessions, week beginning May 20th 2013,(allowing a week for final changes after session 3), there will be a mock panel to judge submissions and make final suggestions before they are submitted. The first two sessions require more discursive documents, the third section asks you to prepare the material in Je-S format. Proposals should be ready to submit by 14th June 2013.
