Strathclyde Dialogues: taking the leap from entrepreneurship to innovation

The next Strathclyde Dubai event in the Strathclyde Dialogues series is "Taking the Leap from Entrepreneurship to Innovation" which will take place on March 29 at 11am on the Strathclyde Dubai campus, Dubai Women's College.

Recently, and with a view to the Expo 2020, Dubai has been focusing on innovation as a key pillar of economic development. The impressive speed of economic and social development in the UAE has not always previously allowed for the formation of deep-rooted innovation processes. Many entrepreneurial activities in the Emirates have thus been based on knowledge transfer and implementations of business ideas from other geographies and markets. Despite positive results of this popular strategy, its long-term perpetuation could potentially lead to challenges for sustainable regional development and competitiveness.

By focusing on local and regional realities and developing adaptability-related competencies, can Dubai-based companies improve their ability to take-up and grow innovative ideas, boost their sustainable development, and figuratively 'take the leap' from entrepreneurship to innovation?

Speakers will include Dr Ayesha Abdullah, Managing Director of Science Cluster, Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC, Dubiotech, ENPARK); Stevi Lowmass, owner & founder, Essential Soaps, former managing director, Heels & Deals Dubai; Qussay Abdul Wahab (MBA alumnus) senior business counsellor, Entrepreneurship Development Department, Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development; Genny Ghanimeh, CEO & founder, Pi Slice; and Dr Umme Salma Mujtaba, faculty member, Heriot-Watt University, Entrepreneurial Sustainability Advisor/Consultant.

The event will be hosted by Dr Katerina Nicolopoulou, the academic in charge of 'The Strathclyde Dialogues' and a Senior Lecturer at Strathclyde Business School's Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship.

Strathclyde Business School's Abu Dhabi centre hosted a guest lecture by Dr Jim Hamill in late February, with the subject of "Digital Darwinism and Digital Dinosaurs". He describes the theme of the talk in his blog which you can read here.
