Professor Butler has been awarded the Susan M Shaw and Roger C Mannell Leisure Research Award by the University of Waterloo, Canada, for "outstanding career contributions and the impacts of those contributions on leisure scholarship internationally". Professor Butler will receive the award in May, 2014.
May will also see Professor Butler being keynote speaker at the UNWTO conference, “Innovative Approaches to Overcome Seasonality: The Puntal Del Este Prototype”, to be held in Uruguay, May 1-3.
Meanwhile, on April 2 Professor Butler was interviewed by Feature Story News of South Africa for a television programme on how tourism in South Africa has changed since the end of apartheid. The video interview was held at Middlesex University where Professor Butler had given a talk on the Tourism Area Life Cycle to the Business School.
