City Observatory preview at Lighthouse

The Institute for Future Cities is exhibiting a preview of their “City Observatory” in the Lighthouse’s Viewing Platform until December 2014.

The installation aims to highlight how city data helps us to understand our urban centres, and plan and deliver better cities for the future. Visitors can explore interactive maps of Glasgow and other cities across the world showing information about demographics, health and the economy, and also explore a data visualisation of the world’s mega-cities from 1950 to today.

The maps highlight stories about cities that prompt us to think about how things have changed, why, and what this means for the future. The interactive displays are juxtaposed against the fantastic backdrop of Glasgow’s cityscape seen from the Viewing Platform.

This is a taster of the forthcoming permanent City Observatory, which will be based at the Technology and Innovation Centre from February 2015.
