Scottish MBA Fair and industry sector day

The annual Scottish MBA Careers Fair took place in February this year, with MBA students from Strathclyde, and other MBA programmes at business schools across Scotland and Northern England attending. The MBA Fair has been running for five years and is an initiative run jointly by SBS and Edinburgh Business School.

Students get to meet companies and organisations specifically interested in MBA students, and can discuss, not just recruitment, but student projects, dissertation topics and internships, with company representatives. A range of skills sessions are also on offer as well as networking opportunities with other students.

Companies get to meet a targeted group of around 300 talented postgraduate business students and are able to take advantage of services such as interview rooms and accessing MBA profiles.

Companies include Amazon, GE Energy, Google, Lloyds Banking Group and Standard Life, and organisations such as CIMA and AMBA also attend.

Irene Aitkenhead Taylor, MBA Career Development Officer, who initiated the Fair in 2008, said, "For companies, it is an ideal opportunity to meet a diverse pool of highly talented and industry-experienced individuals, and for the students, it raises their profile, gives them networking opportunities, and they can attend with the knowledge that the organisations attending are specifically interested in our MBA and business postgraduate students."

The Industry Sector Day followed, with around 20 alumni from various companies representing specific business sectors, being on hand for students to ask questions and seek advice; an event which students found very informative and useful.

As part of the Careers Development programme, MBA students also visited Amazon for a tour, presentation, and question and answer sessions with the management team.
