Blockchain in Finance

Event Date: 15 November 2016

Speaker: Willie Fleming

Time: 5-6pm

Location: Trading Simulation Lab, Stenhouse Wing (SW203)

Bitcoin and Blockchain are disruptive technologies that are forcing governments, banks, financial bodies, City institutions and investors alike to reassess where they stand, and how they can benefit from the technology. As a result, more and more companies are finding they require knowledge of this new technology and resulting applications in order to keep up in this fast-paced environment. The uses of the Blockchain go far beyond Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, into every aspect of our lives.

This seminar will look at:

  • The applications of Bitcoin and Blockchain
  • The benefits of Bitcoin and Blockchain
  • How the applications exist and operate in the real-world
  • The impact of these applications upon businesses and professions

Willie Fleming

With a wealth of experience in engineering, IT and tech businesses, Willie specialises in alternative research projects which made him an early adopter of digital currencies.  He has been involved in blockchain technology since 2013 and we estimate is 1 of just 5,000 worldwide who truly understand this disruptive technology and its potential applications.

As an entrepreneur, he saw the opportunity to develop Scotland's own digital currency, Scotcoin, as its Project Director.

ScotEsq is a Scottish based Fintech company.  It is Scotland’s only CPD accredited provider of Blockchain courses and one of only two in the UK.  This session is sponsored by The Scotcoin Project and we will present a shortened version of  'Blockchain And What It Means To You', a half day CPD accredited course which provides attendees with an introduction to the technology of the Blockchain and cryptocurrency generally.

The event is a paying CPD event.  Interested parties should pay and register here. There are a number of free places available to members and fellows of CeFRI - please contact Daniel.Broby@strath.ac.uk for further information.
