Title:
Researching Multisensory Experiences through an Artist’s Eye
Abstract:
Individuals have a range of experiences in the marketplace, some of them entailing emotion-laden multisensory consumption contexts. Current marketing and consumer research data collection and theoretical representations may not adequately represent such experiences. Thus, we developed an interdisciplinary approach to better understand and examine multisensory experiences that most often occur in emotion-laden consumption multisensory contexts. Through a study of families who donated the organs of a deceased loved one, we develop an art-centric methodology to uncover those thoughts, experiences, or feelings that may not be accessible for individuals as they attempt to describe these profound experiences or the implications of them in their lived experience. Implications for market and consumer research are presented.
