The Centre for the Political Economy of Labour invites participants to a discussion on contemporary redistributive income demands and organising labour across sectors and borders in the second webinar of our Global Labour Reform Seminar Series. It is the second event as part of the CPEL Global Labour Reform Seminar Series.

Guest Speakers:

  • Richie Venton, Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers, who successfully fought for vulnerable workers’ rights amidst COVID-19 despite victimisation from one of the UK’s largest retail firms;
  • Jane Ragoo, who has campaigned for a universal minimum wage as a percentage of median income with the Confederation of Public and Private sector workers in Mauritius;
  • Antonio Carlos de Mello Rosa, President of the Decent Work Institute, established in 2019 in Brazil to advocate for dignified work and an egalitarian society.

This event aims to:

  • Share experiences and ideas towards redistributive wage demands (minimum, median, maximum, basic income and living wages) fit for the 21st century;
  • Help articulate standards beyond individual/sector/national disputes;
  • Agree steps forward between workers, their organisations and researchers in communicating and building a platform of demands across borders.

Please come and join us.
